Gregory River Canoe Marathon – CANCELLED

ATTENTION The North West Canoe Club are sorry to inform everyone that again due to the current high water level and increased flow rate of the river, it is necessary to cancel the 2024 Gregory River Canoe Marathon.
Despite adjustments to our risk assessment, the latest information we have received, is that the incoming flows from the Riversleigh and O’Shannassy catchments will see the Gregory River flowing at a rate higher than we can safely hold the race at.
Safety of our competitors and volunteers will always take priority.
We understand that this change will impact your weekend but rest assured we are currently finalising plans for an enjoyable event filled with excitement and adventure.
The North West Canoe Club intend to make the most of the long weekend at Gregory and we invite you to join us for the fun
Friday night will still see the paddling family come together at Mellish, but instead of the traditional roast, we’ll be hosting a mouthwatering sausage sizzle! 
On Saturday, enjoy the Gregory Downs Jockey Club horse races, fashions of the field, foot races and band. 
Don’t miss one of the best race meets in the outback. The community has been hit hard by Mother Nature over the last few years. Your support will make a difference
Enjoy a coffee, muffin or icecream from Murray’s coffee shop, it is the best in the gulf!
The Gregory locals will be grading some of the tracks into the river over the next week, so if you see them, say thanks as they are working hard to ensure we can all access the majestic Gregory River safely.
