On the 21st of August, Sunshine Coast Paddlesports Club successfully hosted the Maroochy River Paddle. Approximately 140 paddlers representing 15 clubs met at Dunethin Rock Lagoon for the start of the race to Eudlo Creek, Maroochydore. Craft varied from recreation to skis, double skis, kayaks, V1’s, OC1’s and OC6’s and a dragon boat.
On the day the weather was dry and clear with winds picking up to 10 – 15 knots around 10am when the majority of paddlers were within 5km of the finish. With most river traffic towards the finish, the outgoing tide combined with heavy silting of the Maroochy River made for a difficult finish of the race. The participants and wider paddling community enjoyed the event.

The event was a success raising funds for the club and major benefactor, the Hear & Say Foundation.
