The Official Journal of Paddle Queensland

Paddler Jun/Aug 23

Following the tireless work of past administrations and the value placed on the members journal QANOE, Paddler will continue the legacy and tradition that QANOE provided the Queensland paddling community by providing members and subscribers with the latest paddling news and events to ensure and support Our Vision of ‘More People Paddling, More of the Time’.

Paddler will also provide quarterly updates on Paddle Queensland activities such as recreational paddles, workshops, clinics, state, national and international events as well as all the key information to help your club grow through good governance practices
and grant opportunities.

Paddler will also develop a range of features on major events and profile the achievements of Members, Clubs and Volunteers so we can acknowledge and recognise the outstanding contribution the paddle community provides across the State.

As we move into the cooler months, I would like to revisit some of the benefits an Active and Healthy paddling lifestyle provides for some extra motivation:
• We all know that leading an active lifestyle is good for us. If we participate in regular physical exercise, we can expect  to enjoy multiple physical and mental health benefits and by taking good care of our body, is one of the most important things we can do to improve our mental wellbeing.
• Physical exercise makes us feel good, lifts our mood, increases our energy levels and improves our sleep.
• Partnered with a well-balanced and nutritious diet that provides the right balance of nutrients will allow us to work at our very best and ensure we are able to handle life’s day-to-day challenges.
• Feeling connected to people, groups, places and culture also plays and important role in our mental wellbeing.
• We have evolved to live in tight bands and family groups, with a need for constant social interaction. Fostering and nurturing stronger relationships and connections in our community will also strengthen our social networks for when we might need extra support.
• Spending time in nature has major benefits for your mental wellbeing and has also been shown to have wider health benefits including, building your immune system, lowering your blood pressure, improving your mood, reducing stress and there is no better way to embrace nature than paddling.
• When we spend time in nature, it also allows us to get more exposure to the sun which helps produce mood-stabilising chemicals such as serotonin, while also giving your Vitamin D levels a boost which helps regulate your sleep-wake cycles.

I hope you enjoy reading this edition of Paddler while looking back on the outstanding achievements the community has accomplished this year as much as I have putting it together.

The next edition of Paddler is due out in late August, so if you know of, or have information to share and would like it published in the September – November edition please email me by the end of July.
