The 2026 Paddle Queensland Sprint Championships Thrill at Lake Samsonvale
Lake Samsonvale, QLD – Saturday 7 February 2026
Queensland’s paddling community gathered in force at Lake Samsonvale for the 2026 Paddle Queensland Sprint Championships, delivering a day of fast-paced racing, outstanding performances and vibrant community spirit under near-perfect water conditions.
The flat, pristine waters of Lake Samsonvale provided an ideal backdrop for sprint racing across multiple distances. Competitors from clubs throughout Queensland — from juniors chasing personal bests to seasoned paddlers contesting state titles — took to the course in a celebration of athleticism, camaraderie and competitive excellence.
Event Highlights
Racing unfolded across 100m, 200m and 500m events, with close finishes and powerful performances across kayak, ski and SUP classes.
Standout performances were delivered across junior, open and masters divisions, showcasing the depth of sprint talent across the state. The energy from competitors and spectators alike made for an electrifying atmosphere from the first race to the final medal ceremony.
“It was great to see such strong participation across all age groups,” said Scott Sharples, Executive Officer of Paddle Queensland. “The quality of racing and positive spirit displayed today embodies the growth we’re seeing right across our sport.”
Conditions & Competition
With calm waters for most of the day, Lake Samsonvale once again proved itself to be a premier sprint venue — allowing every athlete to compete in fair and fast conditions. Several close finishes, dead heats and PB efforts highlighted the depth of competition throughout the programme.
