A New Chapter for Outrigger Paddling in Queensland

Paddle Queensland is proud to officially welcome the newly formed Queensland Outrigger Technical Committee, marking an exciting new chapter for outrigging within the Paddle Queensland community.

The establishment of the Committee represents an important step forward in strengthening the growth, leadership and future direction of outrigging across Queensland. It also reflects the increasing momentum, passion and opportunity emerging throughout the discipline.

Paddle Queensland is pleased to acknowledge and welcome the inaugural Committee members:

  • Blair Mitchell
  • Greg Cook
  • Leigh Paine
  • Gio Cercone
  • John Robinson
  • Glenn Baynes

Each member brings valuable experience, knowledge and a strong commitment to supporting the outrigging community throughout Queensland.

Outrigger paddling holds a unique and proud place within the broader paddling landscape, built on strong community values, teamwork, culture and connection to the water. Through the formation of this Technical Committee, Paddle Queensland looks forward to working collaboratively with clubs, paddlers, volunteers and event organisers to support participation growth, athlete pathways, event development and stronger statewide engagement.

The Committee will also play an important role in supporting the ongoing implementation of Paddle Australia’s Paddle Forward 32 strategy, helping ensure outrigging continues to contribute positively to the future growth and sustainability of paddlesports in Queensland.

Importantly, this milestone is about more than governance structures — it is about bringing people together. The creation of the Queensland Outrigger Technical Committee provides a platform for collaboration, leadership and shared vision as the sport continues to evolve across the state.

Paddle Queensland also acknowledges the broader national significance of this initiative. Strong collaboration and positive relationships across the paddling community will help strengthen opportunities and pathways for paddlers while supporting the continued growth and recognition of outrigging across Australia.

We sincerely thank the Committee members for stepping forward to contribute their time and leadership, and we look forward to working together to support a strong, inclusive and exciting future for outrigging in Queensland.

Welcome aboard and welcome to the Paddle Queensland family.
