GCP: Moody Civil & Pipe Wave Break Island Challenge Report

The Gold Coast Paddlesports Moody Civil & Pipe Wave Break Island Challenge was held on Sunday, April 27, 2025, at Main Beach, Australia attracting 110 craft across various disciplines and age categories.

The event featured a diverse range of paddling disciplines, including surf skis (SKI), outrigger canoes (OC1, OC2, OC6), stand-up paddle boards (SUP), and double skis (D/SKI). Competitors ranged from juniors to seasoned veterans, showcasing the depth of talent within the paddling community.

Long Course Highlights
• Overall Winner: Cory Hill dominated the long course, finishing in an impressive 55:30.2.
• Top Female Finishers: The duo of Kalini Ives and Bonnie Hancock led the women’s division with a time of 59:50.2.
• Notable Category Winners:
– SKI 50+: Julian Norton-Smith clocked in at 58:46.0.
– SKI 60+: Oz Bestel secured victory with a time of 1:03:41.1.
– SKI Junior: Asa Poland impressed with a finish time of 1:02:30.8.
– OC6 Senior: The Surfers Outriggers team completed the course in 59:01.0.

Short Course Standouts
• Overall Winners: Richard Williamson and Hendrik Van Der Wal led the field, finishing in 37:26.7.
• Top Female Competitor: Hannah Truscott emerged as the fastest female, completing the course in 40:09.7.
• Category Highlights:
– OC2 Senior: Ben and Ned Herrald achieved a time of 41:05.0.
– SKI 60+: John Kavanagh finished in 41:03.1.
– Mixed OC6 Senior: The GC OCC 444 team posted a time of 38:51.9.
