On behalf of Paddle Queensland, it is my pleasure to welcome you to the Pacific Coast Ocean Racing Series.
The Pacific Coast Ocean Racing Series will bring the Queensland Ocean Racing community together across four events from May to September starting with the Brisbane Paddling Clubs’ Moreton Bay Ocean Paddle, the Mooloolaba Paddlers Nordic Kayaks Beach to Beach Ocean Race, the Paddle Queensland 14 Beaches Ocean Racing State Championships and finishing with the Fraser Coast Regional Councils’ Hervey Bay Ocean Classic.
The Series will comprise of Male, Female and Mixed classes for Under 19, Under 23, Opens and Masters paddlers on Surf Skis, Spec Skis, Outrigger Canoes, Stand Up Paddle Boards and Stand Up Paddle Foil Boards who will compete for line honours on courses of around 15 km.
As part of the Paddle Australia Canoe Ocean Racing Technical Committees long term strategy, the running of the 2023 and 2024 Paddle Australia Canoe Ocean Racing Championships, as well as the selection of the National Team to represent Australia at the 2024 International Canoe Federation (ICF) Canoe Ocean Racing World Championships has been put on hold whilst an arrangement with Ocean Paddler and the Shaw and Partners Australian Ocean Racing Series (AORS) is explored.
This would see the AORS used to crown the 2023 and 2024 Paddle Australia Ocean Racing Champions, as well as selecting the National Team to represent Australia at the 2024 ICF Canoe Ocean Racing World Championships in Madeira, Portugal.
As part of this partnership the Paddle Queensland 14 Beaches Ocean Racing State Championships will be the first of two Queensland events to be included in the Shaw and Partners Australian Ocean Racing Series in 2023 and 2024.
The Paddle Queensland Ocean Racing Series would not be possible without the tremendous support of the following organisations Paddle Australia, Brisbane Paddling Club, Kurrawa Surf Life Saving Club, Mooloolaba Paddlers, the Fraser Coast Regional Council and the Hervey Bay Surf Life Saving Club.
